5 Best of the Week
Wanderland 2013, The Great Gatsby + the soundtrack, eyewear from Shop YAWYW and Last Days Manila II. Read on.

Wanderland 2013 – Spectacular live performances (oh my god, The Temper Trap made my life), a massive crowd (quite massive, I couldn’t keep track of all the flower crowns, bandanas and feathered headdresses), the first ever run of the music and arts festival turned out pretty well. Props to the Karpos kids. | See photos of the event on their Facebook page.

Sunnies from ShopYAWYW – Well, we recently launched our online shopping site and with a self-professed addiction to eyewear, I just had to get first dibs on these babies. Aren’t they gorgeous? If you want one (or all), you know what to do.

The Great Gatsby – Heaven knows how waiting for this film’s premiere strained my patience. That being said, I had to go see it on the first night it showed here in Manila. And the verdict? At par with–and perhaps, exceeded a little bit of my expectations. Stellar acting from the cast, beyond beautiful costume design and production, and visually stunning like any other Baz Luhrmann-piece, FOOL, GET OUT OF YOUR SEAT AND GO TO THE THEATERS TO SEE THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T YET!

The Great Gatsby Soundtrack – And right after seeing the film, there’s no better way to make the good impression last than to drown yourself in its perfect OST. My personal favorites? “Together” (The xx), “Over the Love” (Florence & The Machine), “Love is Blindness” (Jack White), “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” (Fergie, Q-Tip and Goon Rock), “No Church In the Wild” (Jay Z & Kanye West) and “Young and Beautiful” (Lana Del Rey). See how I practically enumerated the entire track list? Yes, it’s THAT good.

Last Days Manila II 25.05.13 - Where have the good ol’ days gone? When underground/warehouse parties were all the rage? Well, Last Days Manila, now on its second run (the first one last year at Edifice Studios was nothing short of awesome) is bringing it back. At the moment, the party’s location remains a mystery. But fret not, they’ve been leaving us breadcrumbs in the form of cryptic tweets, videos and photos. So, if you don’t want to miss this excitingly hipster shindig, hit the follow button on their Twitter and Tumblr accounts. See you there this Saturday?
